"You-Can-Do-It" Websites
If and when you so desire, I can train you how to maintain your web data, add-on components, and mailing lists. I can train your staff in routine web-site activity (page updates, blog entries, video postings, broadcast mailings). You ALWAYS have control over your web content (with or without my paid help). Use me either to create the first draft and/or maintain your ongoing content, where both purposes are payable on a time, travel, and materials basis. I am more cost effective during the initial set-up process, web page modifications, research, and tracking down typical problems.
My conservative websites are content heavy without excess eye candy. However, I take advantage of multi-media (YOUR photos, YouTube links, hyperlinked text, e-mail redirection). I know trustworthy web-hosting providers (see below) but will gladly work with your own service provider. Allow a basic learning curve if you require a provider unknown to me.
I advise, train, and can set up a low-end PayPal Account, YouTube Channel, Facebook Group, Zoom account, and bulk E-mail Broadcasting tool (like MailChimp). I edit/produce low-end MP4 videos using NERO. I do not have experience with high-end high-volume for large corporations nor studio-quality video production. I am not a graphics artist.
Advisory: I choose which requests to support with my limited time and life-long traditional faith advocacy.
You handle all annual vendor costs as follows (but I can set up and/or invoice with a labor surcharge):
A rented domain name (the rented name for your website, example: georgehardware.com) costs $10 to $25 per year. Most web hosting services (see below) can arrange registration (but you are not obligated to re-register with them if you already have a domain name elsewhere). The rent is lower on three-year contract. Never let your rent lapse since pirates scoop up abandoned names to ransom, often to the ruin of your reputation. Many businesses have several names that point to the same hosting service (example: georgehandyman.com and georgehardware.org would point to the same hosted website of georgehardware.com). Each domain name is rented separately.
Stand-alone domain registration (and e-mail service) companies: GoDaddy, Networksolutions
A rented hosting service (the place to store your web pages) costs $10 to $26 per month (Personal to Small Business). Discounts hook you for first year. Thereafter, pay full rate. It costs a lot to hand-convert to another hosting service so compare normal prices when deciding upon a hosting service. Most offer domain registration when purchasing a multi-year or small business hosting package. Neither NetworkSolutions nor Comcast offers web hosting.
Reputable web hosting companies: Square (which owns Weebly), HostGator, SquareSpace, Homestead, Verio
A rented domain e-mail box per person (to separate business email from your personal e-mail) costs about $60 per year (and less for 5-year contract). Discounts hook you for first year. Thereafter, pay full rate. GoDaddy uses cloud based MicroSoft 365 (Outlook) but requires an app download per device. Networksolutions offers a cloud-based mailbox available from any device (no app download) via a browser as "mail.domainname" (example: [email protected] gets viewed at the browser address: mail.georgehardware.com).
Reputable domain-based e-mail company: Networksolutions
E-mail auto-forwarding uses your domain name as your e-mail address but redirects inbound mail to your home e-mail. Any auto-forward address can go to multiple people without the sender knowing their individual home addresses. (Example: [email protected] gets redirected to your computer staff home e-mails). GoDaddy does not offer this for users of their Microsoft365 mailboxes.
Reputable auto-forwarding company: HostGator
